St. Jude Horse Rescue was founded in 2016 after our director, Lissette Hernandez, rescued a horse from an auction where she was destined for slaughter.
That horse, we named Sierra, arrived in heartbreaking condition—severely neglected, emaciated, and carrying countless physical and emotional scars.
Through patience, compassion, and dedicated care, Sierra's journey to recovery became the inspiration behind our rescue.
Lissette believed that every horse deserves a second chance.
Even when horses are no longer considered "working horses," they still have value, purpose, and so much love to give.
Today, at St. Jude Horse Rescue, we are dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing sanctuary for equines that have suffered from abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
We also offer a safe, loving, and dignified retirement for horses that have faithfully served throughout their lives.
Sadly, many horses are abandoned when they become too old, are no longer able to work, or their care becomes financially overwhelming. At St. Jude Horse Rescue, we provide horses and other farm animals with a second chance by offering them safety, rehabilitation, and lifelong care. Through our rescue efforts, we create opportunities for people to experience the beauty, companionship, and unconditional love these animals have to offer.
At St. Jude Horse Rescue, we strive to create a welcoming space where people of all ages can experience the joy of connecting with horses while learning about equine welfare through hands-on volunteer and advocacy opportunities.
Over the years, we have reached many important milestones in advancing our mission, including becoming certified and implementing the EAGALA model through our work..
